Level One - Idea to Outline

$500.00

I have taught a version of this class for more than five years, experimenting with different class formats and teaching styles. Through this work, I have formulated a logical yet intuitive movement through creating compelling characters, building foundational story elements and finding the meaning within your film. Start with a rough idea in any form and end with a full picture and outline of what your film wants to be.

The class is built for writers to sit and actively write and create during the session. Through a series of lectures, exercises and prompted free-writing sessions, I guide writers through the core concepts of feature films whilst focusing primarily on creating characters and circumstances that feel real and compelling. It is built on intuition and creating space for your idea to show up while you are actively writing every idea down as they continue to show up in various forms.

This is a small group class (8 writers max) built on connection, safety and play. Each writer gets to know each other’s projects, etc. We straight up hold space for each other. Not even jokin’ here. Expect to be active and engaged throughout the class and ready to share thoughts on other people’s work as well as your own. In no way does that mean you need experience as a writer, it just means you need to bring your true self and openness to the table and come ready to give your time, focus and love to the story creation process with your fellow artist/human.

I believe the compulsion to create stories comes from the deepest parts of our human psyche and the desire to create a story is our search for meaning in this world and I consider it a gift to be able to help other people find the story they want to tell. No matter the tone or genre of your film, it is your inner life expressing itself outward and in this class we move through the creation of character and movie script as a profound yet playful experience of creating a story and meditating on the concept of change.
