The 12-Week Feature Film Journey

A guided path from idea to finished first draft — weekly live classes, worksheets, videos, table reads with extensive feedback on your pages, and a community of writers walking the same road with you.

Writing a feature film is more than learning structure. It's becoming the kind of writer who can stay with an idea long enough to navigate through the parts that feel messy, the scenes that aren't working yet, the moments you'd normally quit and start something new instead. It’s also about finding the right amount of support to help you build the momentum and staying power to bring your idea to life. Over twelve weeks, you and a concentrated group of fellow writers (8-10 max per cohort) will develop and write a loose “zero” draft, then turn it into a full first draft of your screenplay — scene by scene, week by week, with your pages read and discussed in class along the way, structure to lean on, and all of it designed for you to find your voice and the meaning within your story.

WHO THIS IS FOR

  • Writers who want to grow into the artist capable of bringing their idea to life

  • Writers who've started and stalled before, and want clear structure and accountability this time

  • Writers ready to commit meaningful time to the process each week

This isn't a lecture series — it's a working writers' room.

WHAT YOU'LL WALK AWAY WITH

  • A complete first draft of your feature screenplay

  • A clear, repeatable process you can use on your next script

  • Weekly worksheets and videos on story structure, character, and the sequence approach

  • A group of writers who know your story and are building alongside you, week after week

HOW IT WORKS

Groundwork (free): Screenwriting fundamentals, story genres, and the philosophy behind the course — everything you need to arrive ready on day one.

Weeks 1–5: Build your zero draft — your characters, your world, and the loose shape of your story, scene by scene.

Weeks 6–9: Script your major scenes one at a time, with a daily writing practice that builds real momentum.

Weeks 10–12: Connect your scenes, revise as you go, and cross the finish line with a full first draft in hand.

Every week includes a live class (check-ins, a deep dive on a few writers' pages, and instruction), a worksheet, and a short video to keep you moving between sessions.

MEET ME

I'm a Los Angeles-based screenwriter, director, producer, and actor, and I've been teaching feature film writing since 2020 — working with hundreds of writers on developing, outlining, and writing their scripts.

As an actor, my credits include Key & Peele, Reno 911!, Married (FX), Desperados (Netflix), Dr. Brinks & Dr. Brinks, and Paul Thomas Anderson's The Master. I co-wrote, directed, and co-starred in the indie feature The Dramatics (A Comedy), which was acquired and distributed by The Orchard. After that experience, I found I had a real passion for helping other filmmakers develop their work — I've since produced and creatively consulted on multiple shorts and features. Several films developed in my classes have gone on to be produced, including Emma Thatcher's Provo and Noah Bashore’s Walter, Grace & The Submarine. My own feature script, Jill Takes a Break, is currently in development with Cobie Smulders and Thomas Sadoski attached to star and Liz Cardenas attached to direct.

I share all of this to emphasize that this course isn't theoretical. Everything I teach in these twelve weeks — the structure, the process, the emphasis on staying with an idea long enough to finish it — comes from having made that walk myself, more than once, from blank page to produced film.

I've learned a tremendous amount by watching so many different writers move through this process. The ones who finish aren't always the most naturally talented — they're the ones who learn to stay. To me, the feature film is something special: it allows for a process of soul-searching and personal growth that no other form offers in such a condensed yet vast way. It's a deep study of what it means to be human — how we grow and change, in both heroic and tragic ways. Our stories are our inner life expressing itself outward, and I can't think of anything more worth our time than exploring, developing, and delivering a feature film to the world.

FAQ

How big are the groups?

8–10 writers per session, so you get real attention on your pages each week.

Do I need a finished idea or outline before I start?

No — just an idea you want to spend twelve weeks with. We build the world and characters together in the first few weeks.

What if I miss a live class?

Writers receive all class recordings and can watch them in their own time if unable to attend live session.
